Best Remote Jobs For 2022
CALIFORNIA — A dramatic shift dubbed the "Great Resignation" is underway in the U.S. as 4.4 million people quit their jobs in September. Economists say that workers are demanding remote jobs for a better work-life balance.
Many of these employees worked remotely early in the pandemic during stay-at-home health orders. While some companies, such as Twitter, gave workers the go-ahead to work from home permanently; others, such as Google, ordered workers back to the office.
After months of freedom from long expensive commutes, some employees are balking.
A new report from Ziply Fiber analyzed data to determine the best jobs and places for remote work in 2022.
The report notes that according to Forrester’s North American Predictions 2022 guide, companies that do not offer "anywhere-work" will see a 30-percent rise in quit rates.
The Ziply Fiber analysis used data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. News, Indeed, CNBC and other resources to determine the best jobs and places for remote work in 2022.
Best jobs
Employees are clamoring for remote work regardless of education level. The analysis breaks down jobs into lists for those with a high school education, and another for college educated.
The highest paid online job in 2022 that doesn't require a degree is virtual administrative assistant. The most opportunities will be in the field of customer service representative.
A report by Flexjobs found that "writing, social media, and graphic design were all identified as fields that have witnessed a 10-percent increase in remote job listing since the beginning of 2021. Although we were unable to identify the projected annual job openings for freelance writers or social media consultants, this data suggests that these online roles will continue to grow in 2022."
If you are bilingual, the demand for your role as a customer service representative or translator is expected to grow 24-percent by 2030, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
For those with a college degree, the highest paid job is psychiatrist. If you are looking for the most opportunities, the fields are registered nurse or software developer.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics 2020-2030 Employment Projections, "Computer and mathematical occupations are expected to see fast employment growth as strong demand is expected for IT security and software development, in part due to increased prevalence of telework spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic."
In other words, remote work is generating even more remote work.
The health care industry is also shifting online as patients got used to video or phone calls with doctors and nurses during the pandemic. In fact, McKinsey & Company found that "between 40 and 60 percent of consumers express interest in a set of broader virtual health solutions."
The rankings were set using average salary and projected annual job openings. Salaries received 0.7 weight and openings 0.3. The two weighted factors were added together and listed highest to lowest in the final rankings. The projected annual job openings include both remote and in-person positions.

If you are looking for the best state to live while working remotely, California did not make the top 10.
