What’s the best sushi restaurant in San Luis Obispo County?

The answer won’t come as a surprise for fans of fresh seafood and authentic Asian cuisine: Goshi Japanese Restaurant.

Out of a total of 2,241 votes cast in The Tribune’s poll, the venerable Central Coast eatery won 691 votes —31%.

Coming in second place was Yanagi Sushi in Paso Robles, while Nogi in Atascadero nabbed third place. Kanpai Sushi in Shell Beach and Toshi 1.0 in Atascadero filled out the top five.

Goshi Japanese Restaurant has two locations: 570 Higuera St., Suite 155, in San Luis Obispo and 722 Pine St. in Paso Robles.

Both offer the same menu, with options including sushi rolls, sashimi, tataki and tempura.

Yelp users, who gave Goshi an average of 4.8 stars on the popular review site, raved about the restaurants’ fresh, high-quality food and “warm and friendly” customer service. Fans cautioned, however, that both locations tend to be packed.

“I’ve been eating here for 11 years now and it’s still the best quality on the Central Coast,” Yelp user Suzy G. of Nipomo wrote.

Another Yelp user, Jonathan Z. of Aptos, praised the offerings at Goshi’s Paso Robles location: “Always fresh. Always tasty. Always crazy busy.”

“We love Goshi. It’s our favorite in town,” he wrote.

“Goshi definitely claims the spot as SLO’s top sushi restaurant in our books,” Caleb B. of Natomas wrote on Yelp after ordering a “wide range of rolls” there. “All of the rolls were delicious. They were high quality and fresh. The presentations for each dish were also aesthetic and unique, adding a fun layer to the experience. We definitely like felt the price was worth it ...”

Goshi’s San Luis Obispo location is open 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. The Paso Robles location shares the same lunch hours but closes at 8 p.m. for dinner.
