Are these the best tacos in SC? One online publication says yes. Do you agree?

Who doesn’t like a good taco?

No matter if you prefer beef or chicken or are a vegetarian, there is likely a taco for you. Be it for a quick taco Tuesday lunch or a late meal after a night drinking with friends, it’s just hard to go wrong with the classic Mexican food.

And while South Carolina is particularly known for its tasty fried chicken and barbecue offerings, the state has plenty of highly-rated taco joints too. But which place serves the best tacos?

Mashed says it has the answer.

The multi-platform online publication that focuses on food trends, buzz-worthy restaurants and recipes, has compiled a list of the best tacos in all 50 states.

For South Carolina, the site chose Papi’s Tacos in Greenville, with its Al Pastor taco crowned as the greatest in the state.

“South Carolina’s Papi’s Tacos is located in the city of Greenville, and its customers point to the food’s freshness and the friendly staff as to why this taco place has gotten so popular,” Mashed states. “If you’re in a hurry, go with the Travelin’ Taco, served in a Fritos bag. Otherwise, their Al Pastor Taco is the best of the bunch.”

Papi’s Tacos describes itself as a “food truck without wheels.” The restaurant’s menu is simple and short — tacos, tortas, salsas and dips, the restaurant’s website states.

The Al Pastor taco, so highly regarded by Mashed, consists of spit-grilled sliced pork with a “garden” of onion and cilantro.

Mashed isn’t the only site that favors Papi’s Tacos. The restaurant currently has four out of five stars and 151 reviews on Yelp, the crowd-sourced review website.

“Initially, I got the 3 carne Asada tacos and the Mexican corn,” Paul Ray G. Of Melbourne, FL wrote about the restaurant on Yelp. “Absolutely delicious for both dishes! Tacos were so good I went back for two more.”

Jennifer V. of Miami Beach wrote on Yelp that she loved the restaurant.

“I honestly didn’t expect that I’d find good and authentic Mexican-style street tacos in SC,” she wrote. “This place proved me wrong. I ordered 6 kinds: al pastor, chicken and chorizo, cactus and refried beans, fried fish, chicken barbacoa, carnitas; and I also got the guacamole and chips, and the horchata drink.”
