Best TV Deals Right Now

These sets perform well and they're on sale, the perfect combination

By Samantha B. Gordon and James K. Willcox

If you’re looking for a new TV and don’t want to pay full price, Consumer Reports can help. We test hundreds of TVs to help you find the best picture quality and performance for your budget. We scour top retailers to look for price drops on sets that do well in our lab tests to make the search for the best deal on the best TV even easier for you.

The good news is that you can still snag a great deal, even though Amazon’s two-day sale is now over. For example, Best Buy and Walmart continue to offer some great TV deals, and some prices at Amazon, though higher than a day or two ago, are still lower than they were before the sale kicked off.

For the very deepest discounts on a new TV, you’ll definitely want to hold off until the holiday shopping season is underway. But we know that waiting isn’t always an option. Whether your existing set broke or you are simply ready to upgrade now, you can still find discounts on great models. You might not save as much as you will later this year, but it’s certainly better than paying full price for a new TV.

Below you’ll find the top options available now in a wide range of sizes and prices.

TVs Under $500

Insignia NS-70DF710NA21

This 70-inch 4K smart TV from Insignia, Best Buy’s house brand, is a fine overall performer, but its HDR (high dynamic range) performance is ineffective, mainly because of peak brightness limitations. It uses the Amazon Fire TV smart TV system, and Alexa is built in for using voice commands.

Why it’s a good deal: This is the best price we’ve seen for this TV, an especially impressive bargain for the size.

Hisense 50U6H

Unlike many of the models on this list, this is a 2022 set, and the first Amazon Fire TV we’ve seen from a brand other than Amazon, Insignia, and Toshiba. We haven’t tested it—we just got the first Hisense Fire TV in our labs—but based on our experience with those other brands, we expect it to do well for overall picture quality, though HDR performance is a question mark.

Why it’s a good deal: The price jumped $50 with the Amazon sale over, but it’s still $60 less than just a week ago. It’s now the same price at Best Buy.

TCL 43S446

This 43-inch 4K smart TV from TCL is in an entry-level 4K series for 2022; sets it did well for overall picture quality, but like many lower-priced sets not as well for HDR.

Why it’s a good deal: Unlike a lot of the TVs in this article, it’s a new 2022 model, and it uses the newer Google TV system rather than Android TV. Plus it’s $20 cheaper than just a few days ago.

Toshiba 65C350KU

This 50-inch 4K set from Toshiba, a 2021 model that uses the Amazon Fire TV smart TV system, does well for overall picture quality, though not for HDR. These sets are sold mainly at Amazon and Best Buy, and Amazon has the better price right now.

Why it’s a good deal: The set performs well overall, and it’s priced about $30 lower than its usual selling price. It’s a plus if you’re a fan of the Fire TV smart TV platform.

Toshiba 65M550KU

The Toshiba 65M550KU may be a good choice if you want a smart 4K TV and don’t want to deal with a streaming device. It comes with the Fire TV platform built in, so you’re ready to stream as soon as you set up the unit, and while it doesn’t perform quite well enough to live among the best TVs CR has tested, it does get above-average scores for 4K UHD performance. It has a wide viewing angle, too, making it suitable for a family room or other commonly used space in your home.

Why it’s a good deal: The sale price of this set is $20 less than it’s been recently, making it the lowest we’ve ever seen for this model.

TVs for $500 to $1,000

Amazon B08P3QVFMK

This 55-inch Fire TV, sold under Amazon’s own brand, is part of its step-up Omni Series, with a slimmer design and a few more features than the 4-series sets. It does fairly well overall, though its HDR performance was very limited.

Why it’s a good deal: It’s about $50 cheaper now than it was a month ago, and it will appeal to fans of the Fire TV smart TV system.

Amazon B08T6JZTH4

The 75-inch Amazon B08T6JZTH4, the largest Amazon Fire TV we’ve tested, was already at this price before Amazon Prime Day began and was more than $300 below what Best Buy was offering. Like other Omni-series sets it has a slimmer design and a few more features, including Dolby Vision HDR, than the Amazon 4-series sets. It also has a built-in microphones for hands-free operation. It did well overall in our tests, though its HDR isn’t great.

Why it’s a good deal: This set is now $20 more than it was during the Prime Day sale, but it’s still a good price for a set this size, though it could drop again closer to Black Friday.

Hisense 55U7H

We haven’t tested this 2022 55-inch Hisense model yet, but it’s the successor to the Hisense 55U7G model, which did well in our ratings. (We expect it will perform similarly to the 65-inch model we noted above.)

Why it’s a good deal: It’s $50 cheaper at Amazon and Best Buy, and as few regional retailers, than elsewhere right now.

Samsung QN55Q70A

This 55-inch midline QLED TV from Samsung, a 2021 TV, delivers very satisfying overall picture quality, but only decent HDR. It has a few more features, including variable refresh rate for gaming, than the Q60-series sets below it.

Why it’s a good deal: We’ve seen it go about $50 lower, but this is a nice discount.

TVs for $1,000 to $2,000

LG OLED65C1PUB

This 65-inch OLED is in the sweet spot of LG’s 4K OLED TV lineup for 2021, with great all-around picture quality. Throw in top-notch sound and LG’s webOS platform and the set is a great choice as a main TV for just about anyone.

Why it’s a good deal: LG OLED TVs have been among the best sets we’ve tested, and this leftover model was selling for about $2,200 just last week. It’s just a few dollars more at Best Buy than Amazon.

Hisense 75U8H

This is a 4K Google TV model in Hisense’s top mainstream ULED series for 2022. We didn’t test this particular set, but the 65-inch version, the Hisense 65U8H, had great overall picture quality, top-notch HDR, and better-than-average sound.

Why it’s a good deal: This set was selling for about $200 more just a week or so ago

LG OLED65B1PUA

This 65-inch set, the LG OLED65B1PUA, is an entry-level 4K OLED TV in a series from 2021. We didn’t test this model but have tested the 77-inch version (shown here). That set delivers top-notch picture quality, with HDR effectiveness that’s a bit below what you’d get from the C- and G-series models. We expect that you’d see similar high-level performance from this TV.

Why it’s a good deal: This TV $100 more than its Prime Day price, but it’s still a decent savings.

Streaming Devices

Apple TV 4K (32GB, 2021)

The latest Apple TV 4K has a few new notable features, including a redesigned Siri remote with a clickpad rather than the love-it-or-hate-it touchpad. (It is still touch enabled for directional swipes, though). It also has a new processor for improved graphics and video, including support for high frame rate (60fps) Dolby Vision HDR. A unique feature is a color-calibration feature that works with your iPhone so you don’t have to tweak the TV’s settings.

Why it’s a good deal: Apple TV has always been among the priciest of players, and doesn’t often get discounted this much. It was $15 cheaper during the Prime Day sale, but still a good deal.

Amazon Fire TV Cube (2nd Gen)

The Fire TV Cube brings Amazon’s smart speaker and streaming player technology together in one device that acts as a universal remote, allowing you to control your TV as well as other compatible devices, like a stereo, soundbar, receiver, and even some cable and satellite boxes, with voice commands. The Fire TV Cube also has convenient buttons on top of the cube to adjust the volume and mute the microphone.

Why it’s a good deal: This matches the best price we’ve seen for the Fire TV Cube. It’s at the same sale price as earlier this week.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

If you’re not picky about having the fastest speeds and WiFi 6 compatibility, the Fire Stick 4K delivers a solid performance at a better price. The 4K stick-style player has a nice array of content and features, including voice control and Dolby Vision HDR. You can control it from Alexa-enabled devices such as the Echo and Dot, and use the included remote to control power and volume on many TVs and soundbar speakers. The player comes with an Alexa remote control with dedicated buttons for Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix.

Why it’s a good deal: It was $5 cheaper at all retailers this week, but still a good price for an entry-level 4K streamer.
