The best — and worst — US airports for cheap international flights, per new ranking
Flying anywhere can be expensive, but when it comes to flying internationally, tickets can get very pricey.
That's why Scott's Cheap Flights aims to make the flying experience a lot more affordable. Scott Keyes, co-founder and CEO of Scott's Cheap Flights, works with a team of flight searchers to send cheap-flight alerts to its 1.6 million members. In 2018 alone, subscribers to the email service received over 7,000 emails with flight deals from more than 150 U.S. airports.
To continue helping travelers, the company collected data over the past 12 months to compile a list of which U.S. airports had the most frequent deals on international flights, and which ones hardly ever budge.

Coming in at No. 1 was New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport. With 436 cheap international flights sent to members in the last year, Scott's Cheap Flights reported finding about 20% more deals than they found at the No. 2 ranked airport, Los Angeles International Airport.

A few notable mentions from the list include the state of Florida, with three mentions on the best airport list: Miami International Airport at No. 7, Orlando International Airport at No. 9 and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport came in at No. 10. Additionally, New York City-area and California each had two airports on the best airports list.
For the worst airports list, Scott's looked at airports in metro areas with a population of more than 1 million people. While passengers can travel internationally from the airports with a connection, not all of them offer direct international flights, hence a lack of deals. Topping the worst of the list was Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The company only sent 22 cheap international flight alerts from GSO in the past year, and the airport only offers nonstop flights to 16 airports, all within the U.S. .

"Nothing ruins — or prevents — a vacation like expensive flights. We’re excited to provide this research for travelers and give them a better sense of how common cheap flights are to pop up from their home airport. Congratulations to New York City for its continued reign as Cheap Flight Champion of the United States," Keyes said in a press release.
