Jared Johnson thinks Spurs' Dejounte Murray has been a nice surprise for managers and believes there's still room for more production this season.
JARED JOHNSON: Dejounte Murray torched the Pistons for a team high 19 points on nine of 13 shooting and Monday's 109-99 win, adding 10 rebounds, six assists, one 3-pointer, one steal, and four turnovers across 33 minutes. He's been fantastic this season, flirting with top 50 value while hitting career highs in points, triples, boards, and assists to go with his trademark 1.6 swipes a night.
And what's really impressed me is his growth as a jump shooter. When Murray first came into the league, he was an athletic freak. But he didn't have much of a jump shot. However, this season, he's been getting up more shots than ever from mid-range and beyond the arc.
But he's maintained a respectable 44.9 field goal percentage. As good as he's been, I think he'll be even better over the second half with LaMarcus Aldridge no longer around and him being asked to shoulder a larger load offensively. So while he's been a joy to watch, I truly believe the best is yet to come with the Dejounte Murray.
