Bethel Acres mayor accused of pulling a gun on a group of teenagers

BETHEL ACRES, Okla. (KFOR) — An Oklahoma mayor is being accused of pointing a gun at a group of teenagers on Sunday.

Bruce Mcleksey said his family had just finished celebrating his granddaughter’s 17th birthday when his two granddaughters and a friend decided to go to the basketball courts nearby.

“We didn’t think nothing about it because they’ve done it before many times,” said Mcleksey.

Mcleksey said he was headed home when he suddenly realized that his grandchildren needed his help.

“Two cars were like had them blocked in,” said Mcleksey.

One of the cars belonged to Bethel Acres Mayor Tony Carlile, who Mcleksey said allegedly threatened to shoot the children.

“You guys are not cops,” said Mcleksey. “Nobody should be threatening kids like that.”

A heated argument between Mcleksey and Carlile was caught on camera.

“You don’t threaten to kill them!” said Mcleksey in the video.

“I just said I would shoot them!” said Carlile in the video.

“I don’t care who you are, you don’t say you’re going to shoot my kids,” said Mcleksey in the video.

Mcleksey said the mayor was falsely accusing the children of vandalism.

“All they did was walked up and shook the door to see if the complex was opened,” said Mcleksey. “You know kids will be kids.”

Mcleksey said police officers arrived shortly after, but let the Mayor go on his way.

“I don’t understand why they did not arrest them right there on the spot other than he’s a county official and they were showing favoritism,” said Mcleksey.

A heated situation Mcleksey said wasn’t needed and one that leaves him concerned.

“There was no sense in taking it to that extremes,” he said. “I’m worried what would have happened to my grandkids if I hadn’t have been there.”

We tried to contact Carlile but were told he was out of town.

We also contacted the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s office to ask why there were no arrests and if they plan to recommend any charges, and were told it’s too early in the investigation.
