On the campaign trail for Governor Beto O’Rourke states “We are gonna replace ‘Confederate Heroes Day’ as a state holiday with ‘Election Day.’"

Texas has some of the most restrictive voting laws that have been enacted under Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R). Since Biden won the election in 2020 and the false rhetoric of a “stolen election” perpetuated by Former President Donald Trump Texas has continued to crack down on voting rights and voters access.

“After we win, not only will we make changes like making sure we have automatic and same day and online voter registration, not only will we reopen the hundreds of closed polling places, the vast majority of which were closed in the fastest growing black and brown neighborhoods, but I promise you this, together, we are going to replace Confederate Heroes day as a state holiday with election day as a state holiday so you can take the day off and vote.”
