Beto O'Rourke Greets Early Voters in Dallas

The Democratic candidate for Texas governor, Beto O’Rourke, met voters in Dallas on Monday October 24, as early voting for the midterm elections began in the city and state.

Video posted on Facebook shows the former congressman shaking hands and taking photos with people outside Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday morning.

According to a poll of a 1,000 voters conducted by Emerson College on behalf of The Hill and the Nexstar Media Group between October 17 and 19, Abbott held a 10-point lead over O’Rourke, KXAN reported. However, a Beacon Research poll of 1,264 registered voters, published on Sunday, gave Abbott just a three-point lead, according to KWTX.

Texans could cast early votes from October 24 to November 4, or they could vote on Tuesday, November 8 — the day of the midterm elections. Credit: Beto O’Rourke via Storyful

BETO O'ROURKE: Hey, good morning.

[APPLAUSE]

- How are you doing this morning?

[CHEERING]

- Why is that? Yeah.

BETO O'ROURKE: So you're going to get something important--

- Hey, Chris.

- Hey, good to see you.

- Steve Eberhart.

- Nice to see you get in, of course.

- Beto.

- Hi.

- Steve Eberhart, the business.

BETO O'ROURKE: Yeah, good to see you.

- How exciting.

- Third row. Can you show me where he's sitting?

BETO O'ROURKE: Yes.

[CHEERING]

BETO O'ROURKE: Right, so--

- We'll get him started.

BETO O'ROURKE: OK.

- Let's go, Beto.

- Whoo.

- Beto, Beto.

[BRAKES SCREECHING]

[HONKING]

[CHEERING]

- Whoo.

BETO O'ROURKE: Yeah. I just put it on. OK, I appreciate it.

- Good luck.

BETO O'ROURKE: Let's do it. And I look forward to seeing you back up in Gainesville, too. Thank you, appreciate it.

[CHEERING]

- Whoo.

BETO O'ROURKE: You good?

- And I'm sure you're going to hear this member time stamp, work pending today. We need to get out there after you, after your vote in there. We need to be building.

- It's a real forge with that name.

- Yes. Free to be out.

[CHEERING]

- Tell at least ten of your friends, and make sure they get out there and vote. I would say when you get as far as running from Texas--

- Go Beto.

- Whoo.

- Whoo.

- The next step, are you voting?

- Yeah.

BETO O'ROURKE: Time. Oh, you're good.

[APPLAUSE]

- Beto. Beto. Beto. Beto. Beto. Yay.

BETO O'ROURKE: It is a perfect morning to be voting.

- Yes.

BETO O'ROURKE: And to be winning.

- Yes.

BETO O'ROURKE: And to be doing this together. Thank you for coming out. We stopped to get some gas, put it in the truck before we came here. And as we were about to leave, a guy came out of the convenience store and he said, I just voted for you.

[CHEERING]

I said that feels so good to me. And he says it feels so good to me, too.

[LAUGHTER]

- Yeah.

BETO O'ROURKE: This is great. You know, all of us together have been in this for the better part of this last year. We've been knocking on doors.

- Five years.

- Five years.

BETO O'ROURKE: We've been having conversations. Some of us, it's been five years.

[LAUGHTER]

But we've been doing the really important hard work to win elections. This is where it all comes in. So the visits to these communities and these counties, the town halls that we've had, been getting out there in the Texas heat in the summer, knocking on doors, meeting voters, listening to them--

- Colleges.

BETO O'ROURKE: Bringing them in, these cool visits on college campuses, just over the last seven weeks we've registered more than 70,000 new voters.

[CHEERING]

We're giving out, we are so excited to help them get that done. And in addition to voting today, just as Elizabeth was saying, it is so important while we have so many days of early vote left to us, that we keep knocking on those doors.

- Right.

BETO O'ROURKE: Greg Abbott, the folks who are in power right now, are afraid of the people of Texas. That's why during the debate in a thousand person Hall in Edinburgh, they didn't allow a single soul in except for the camera operators and the moderators. They don't want to face their constituents. They draw them out of participating in this democracy by closing polling places, having these horrible voter ID laws, and allowing members of Congress to choose their voters instead of the other way around.

The only way to overcome that is to be on the doors of those who are the targets of the suppression, this intimidation, and make them the margin of victory when we win this on the night of November 8th.

[CHEERING]

And share with your friends, family, your classmates, your colleagues, what we are going to accomplish when we make this happen. We're going to make sure that we get behind our educators and pay them enough so they don't have to work a second or third job. We're going to prioritize the lives of our kids over the interests of the NRA.

- Yes.

[CHEERING]

BETO O'ROURKE: This week marks 22 weeks since those 19 kids and two teachers were killed in Uvalde. But I want you to take heart in this. Those parents and family members of those who were taken from us in Uvalde on the 24th of May, 2022, who could have stayed at home and never showed their face in public again, are leading this fight right now. They are organizing and rallying in Uvalde just as we are doing in Dallas today. We cannot be found wanting. We've got to come through for them, for every child, for every parent, for every student.

[CHEERING]

I'm still confident that we can. We can also make sure that we fight for every woman to make her own decision.

- Yes.

[CHEERING]

BETO O'ROURKE: And I know that we will get that done. But again we've got to talk to-- listen to one another, and bring each other in. Before you leave here, either after you vote or before you do, please take a picture. Post that picture on Twitter. If you have a Facebook account, post it there, Instagram as well, wherever you can.

And in your own words literally before you get in your car or walk off from here, tell people why you came out today to vote and encourage them to do the same. That more than perhaps anything else right now at this moment, will bring those other voters out. And if we keep this up, and if the people of Texas see us voting in record numbers today, they're more likely to vote tomorrow, the next day, and the day after.

I am convinced we are not so much a red state or a blue state as we are a non-voting state today.

- That's right.

BETO O'ROURKE: Our job, after we vote, is to get everyone else to vote as well. You all with me in this?

- Yes.

[CHEERING]

BETO O'ROURKE: We are going to win this election.

[CHEERING]

And now a word from the most popular man in Dallas, going to get down.

[CHEERING]

- What did he say?

- Please go vote. Please vote all the way down the ballot. We've got a lot of races on there. Vote for Beto and the entire team. Thank you all for being out there this morning. God bless you all.

[CHEERING]

- Fight, fight, fight. Fight, fight.

- Yeah, I know the freshman.

- Hi. How are you?

- We'll find out. Yeah.

[LAUGHTER]

- Now you're clear, OK, here we go.

- I thought, I thought--

- How are you?

- Thank you.

- How are you?

- Good luck.

- Hello.

- Can you plunge for twenty?

- Yeah.

- Beto. Yes.

- This way.

- Yeah.

- Eleven hour at that. Yeah, makes it lucky.

- I count clear.

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

- You're good, you're good, you're good.

- Oh my God. After you.

[CHEERING]

- Whoo.

- Yay.

- Family's ready.

- What are you telling?

BETO O'ROURKE: Andre.

- Thank you.

- Got you. Yeah, send them back that way. Send them back that way. Guys, the line's this way, guys, line's this way. Lines, let's see where.

- Oh, it is?

- Line's this way.

- Whoo.

- Yeah, yeah, yeah.

- You get over there.

BETO O'ROURKE: It's starting to rain, so--

- You're going to bring this baby up. Anybody need an umbrella?

- OK.

- You want to go first?

- I'll go.

- Yeah. Got to keep on making this.

- Me, I'll go. Hi, honey.

- Come on in.

- These kids always get the babies, bro, right?

- Always.

- I think we're good under the train.

BETO O'ROURKE: Yeah. This is going to do that.

- All right, y'all. Let's go beat here. Under control.

BETO O'ROURKE: Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no, she's asking putting down Bree, I was like no. No, no.
