'Better Call Saul' picks up 4 TCA nominations

Jun. 16—"Better Call Saul" is getting some love from the Television Critics Association.

The AMC series, which is based and films in Albuquerque, picked up four nominations on Thursday.

ABC's freshman hit, "Abbott Elementary" leads all nominations with five.

"Better Call Saul" is tied with four nominations alongside Apple TV's "Severance" and Showtime's "Yellowjackets."

The final season of the series concludes the complicated journey and transformation of its compromised hero, Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, into criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.

Odenkirk who plays Saul Goodman and Rhea Seehorn, who plays Kim Wexler are both nominated for "Individual Achievement in Drama."

The series, which is airing its final season, grabbed a nomination for "Outstanding Achievement in Drama" and "Program of the Year."

She also congratulated Odenkirk, (series co-creator) Peter Gould and the entire #BCS family, as well as the other nominees.

Over its first seven episodes, the first half of the final season of "Better Call Saul" averaged 2.2 million viewers per episode, including nearly 900,000 adults 25-54. The audience nearly doubled each week from live/same day viewers.

The awards will be held on Aug. 6, at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, California.

The TCA is made up of more than 200 professional journalists covering television.
