The Louisville football program is looking to upgrade its speed.

U of L on Monday announced updates to the Wi-Fi at Cardinal Stadium as well as improvements designed to expedite entering the stadium and grabbing food and drinks once inside.

The upgrades are the result of "extensive in-season and post-season surveying of all ticket members," according to a U of L release, and are designed to answer fans' most pressing issues with the stadium experience.

Increased Wi-Fi connectivity topped the list of fan concerns, according to the Louisville release, and the athletics department has invested more than $5 million to install Wi-Fi access. The department is working with AmpThink on an installation that will allow use of a free Wi-Fi system and "more in-venue digital engagement options during the game."

U of L officials anticipate the project to be completed in time for the Cardinals' Sept. 16 season opener against Florida State, according to the release.

The Wi-Fi isn't the only amenity Louisville hopes to make speedier.

New pedestal ticket scanners will be installed to improve entry at Cardinal Stadium Gates 2, 3 and 4, the busiest game day gates. And U of L will implement walk-through security, using stationary magnetic scanners to replace the handheld scanners from previous seasons.

Louisville also is installing Grab and Go Stations for high-demand concession options to "assist in reducing wait times" in concession lines, according to the release.

In addition to updates to the Wi-Fi, points of entry and concessions, Louisville this fall will debut a renovated Angel's Envy Bourbon Club on the stadium's west side, the space formerly known as the Brown & Williamson Club.

Angel's Envy contributed a $4 million gift to the renovation cost of the 18,000-square-foot club. Once completed this fall, the space will once again be available for community and corporate events.

Louisville interim athletic director Josh Heird said in a release that the updates "are just the beginning" in evaluating the game day experience.

"Our fans' input is invaluable, and it is imperative that we listen — even when it isn't fun to hear — and turn that input into action," Heird said in the release.
