Frank Schwab gives his best bets for the four teams in the AFC South for the 2022 NFL Season.
FRANK SCHWAB: I'm Frank Schwab, and I'm here to give you my best bets for the AFC South for the upcoming season. And we're going to start with the team that won the division last year, the Tennessee Titans. I'm going to fade them this season. Really didn't like what the Titans did this offseason, especially trading receiver AJ Brown. I think that takes a ton away from their passing game.
Yes, they're going to have Derrick Henry back, but he is coming off an injury. I assume Henry's going to be fine. But AJ Brown was such a big part of the passing game in this offense. I'm going to take the Titans to not make the playoffs at even money odds. AFC is going to be deep and tough this year, and I'm not sure the Titans are going to win the division or get a wild card spot.
Next, we'll move on to a team I do think is going to win the division, and that's the betting favorite, the Indianapolis Colts. Colts a little less than even money right now to win the division, and I think those are fair odds. The Colts upgraded a quarterback, getting rid of Carson Wentz and adding Matt Ryan. Look, Matt Ryan, he did look bad last year, but it was a terrible situation with the Falcons. He comes into a lot better team with the Colts.
Good running game, good offensive line. Team is well-coached. The Colts disappointed last year. Going to be right back on them to win the division in 2002.
Next up, we go to the Jacksonville Jaguars. A lot of different ways I can go with this because I do like this team. I do like Trevor Lawrence. But I'm going to go with Travis Etienne to be Comeback Player of the Year at about 30 to 1 odds. Etienne, a first round pick last year.
Dynamic talent. Missed all of last season with a foot injury, but he's going to be back. There's not a lot of roadblocks to playing time with James Robinson coming off an Achilles injury. I think Etienne has a huge season and wins Comeback Player of the Year. Especially like it at 30 to 1 odds.
And finishing up, we go to the Houston Texans. Now, the Texans are not a sexy team. They didn't have a good season last year. Not a lot of things to like about the Texans, but I'm still going to take them over 4 and 1/2 wins. Look, it's a very, very low bar that is tied for the lowest win total in the NFL.
The Texans will be better than they were last year. Did get a new coach, Lovie Smith. Maybe that gives them a little more energy. I do believe Davis Mills is a competent quarterback for them coming into his second season. It's not too much to ask to get the five wins. I think the Texans can do that this season.
