Escambia County officials dedicated the new Beulah fire station to Escambia County Fire Rescue District Chief Dwain Bradshaw and District Chief Steve McNair during a groundbreaking ceremony for the new station Friday.

Bradshaw was killed in the line of duty in 2019 when responding to a vehicle crash at 4 a.m. and while working the crash was struck by a passing vehicle. Bradshaw's death saw an outpouring of support for Escambia County Fire Rescue and the Bradshaw family from the community and other fire departments across the region.

McNair has served as a firefighter in Beulah for 50 years and led the effort to rebuild the current Beulah fire station after it burned down in 1977.

The new Bradshaw-McNair Fire Station will be on the same site as the current Beulah fire station.

Commissioners approved the $8.4 million construction contract with Emerald Coast Constructors Inc. to build the new station on Thursday.

The new station will be 14,500 square-feet and have four vehicle bays and a small community meeting or training room.

Commission Chairman Jeff Bergosh, who presented proclamations to the Bradshaw family and McNair on Friday, said the new station should be complete in 2024.
