Beverly Moves Lynch Park Coronavirus Testing Due To Storm
BEVERLY, MA — Beverly has changed its free drive-thru coronavirus testing for residents scheduled for Saturday to Sunday due to the expected snowstorm.
Up to four inches of snow are forecast for the North Shore, with up to 18 inches of snow possible for inland locations of Central Massachusetts.
Sunday's testing will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lynch Park with residents encouraged to get tested as positive coronavirus cases rise across the area and throughout the state.
"Please know that over the last eight days there have been 134 new positive COVID cases in Beverly, an average of 17 per day," Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill said in a message to the community. "This is up from about 7 to 10 cases per week in August and early September. Also, all the hospitals around the region, including Beverly Hospital, are seeing a significant and concerning increase in people needing to be hospitalized with COVID-19.
"So, while small numbers of vaccine are supposed to be coming soon for front line health care workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities, it will still take several months for vaccines to be available for us all.
"And that means we are going to need to keep being careful."
