Ohio's top five high schools, according to the magazine, are:

  1. Bexley High School

  2. Walnut Hills High School (in Cincinnati)

  3. Mariemont High School (near Cincinnati

  4. Indian Hill High School (near Cincinnati)

  5. Wyoming High School (near Cincinnati)

Bexley High named top high school in state

Bexley High School was named the top high school in Ohio, the only high school for the district of just under 2,500 students.

Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college, according to the magazine. Based on these metrics, Bexley High School scored 99.32 out of 100.

The school also cracks the top 200 of schools nationally, coming in at No. 121.

Bexley Superintendent Jason Fine said that the district is proud to have been named the top school, saying "academic excellence is a long-standing tradition in our community, and the experience we offer goes far beyond test scores and graduation rates."

"We place a high value on the journey our students are on as individuals to discover their passions and develop the ability to learn with curiosity, demonstrate kindness, and embrace equity," Fine said.

Two Olentangy high schools in state's top 20

Olentangy Local Schools also had two high schools in the top 20 high schools in the state.

Olentangy Liberty was ranked No. 9 in Ohio, and No. 333 nationally and Olentangy High School was ranked No. 13 in Ohio and No. 392 nationally.

Dublin Jerome High School, part of Dublin City Schools, was ranked Np. 12 in the state and Np. 389 nationally.

Top high schools in Greater Columbus

U.S. News & World Report also ranks districts by metropolitan area. In the central Ohio area, every Olentangy Local Schools high school made the top 10 list.

The top high schools in the Columbus area are:

  1. Bexley High School

  2. Olentangy Liberty High School

  3. Dublin Jerome High School

  4. Olentangy High School

  5. Granville High School

  6. Olentangy Berlin High School

  7. Olentangy Orange High School

  8. New Albany High School

  9. Columbus Alternative High School

  10. Upper Arlington High School
