Beyoncé Admits Work/Mom-Life Balance Is 'the Most Stressful Thing,' & We Get It

She might always look like she’s 100 percent in control but, in a new interview, Beyoncé admits that she stresses over work-life balance like any other mom. Okay, so maybe not like any other mom — there exists some minutiae like, oh you know, the fact that she’s a global superstar and boundary-breaking entrepreneur. But at the core, her struggle to be both present for her family and committed to her career is something many of us can relate to.

In an interview with Elle for the magazine’s 2020 cover, Beyoncé let fans from her “Beyhive” submit questions to ask her via social media. One of those questions centered on just how put-together the singer always seems. “What stresses you out? You always look like you are in control,” an Instagram fan asked. But as Beyoncé’s answer revealed, the appearance of control is often just that: an appearance. Something she slips on to cloak the uncertainty lurking just below.

“I think the most stressful thing for me is balancing work and life. Making sure I am present for my kids—dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family—all while running a company can be challenging,” she said. “Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that’s life for any working mom.”

One special way she bonds with her daughters that came up in the interview? Clothes (we can’t say we’re surprised!). When asked what she does with her looks once she’s worn them, Beyoncé revealed that, first of all, she has no problem recycling looks. “I think it’s important to have great basics that you can wear again and again,” she said, noting that versatility is a huge part of her new IVY PARK x adidas collection aesthetic.

But Beyoncé shared she rehomes her clothes, too. She donates some to charities that support women getting back on their feet. “And I save my special pieces for my daughters!” she exclaimed, quoting a lyric from her song “Lovehappy”: “I give my daughter my custom dresses, so she gon’ be litty. Vintage pieces by the time she hit the city, yeah-ah!!”
