EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) _ Beyond Meat Inc. (BYND) on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $1.8 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The El Segundo, California-based company said it had profit of 3 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 6 cents per share.

The plant-based meat company posted revenue of $97.1 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $93.9 million.

Beyond Meat shares have increased 32% since the beginning of the year.
