Beyond Meat now selling plant-based Golden Krust Jamaican-styled patties – and Lizzo is a big fan

Hey mon!

Just when non-meat eaters thought Beyond Meat products couldn’t get any better – after recently introducing meatless meatballs and breakfast sausage links – the fast-growing plant-based manufacturer has partnered with the Golden Krust to launch vegan Jamaican patties.

And they already have made a fan of Lizzo.

On Monday, the Grammy Award-winning pop superstar – who recently celebrated six months on her new vegan diet – went ham over the offering. No pun intended.

“I’m not exaggerating when I say today is possibly the best day of my life,” the “Cuz I Love You” singer shared on her Instagram stories, as she chowed down. “If you know me, you know that I love, LOVE Jamaican beef patties.”

The chart-topping artist gave a play-by-play of her joy and exclaimed, “By the grace of Jesus…Golden Krust and Beyond Meat…I’m about to tear this up,” and concluded that she was, “going in for more.”

Over the weekend, the Bronx, New York-based restaurant chain officially announced “the world’s first plant-based Jamaican patty made with Beyond Meat” with plans to expand it across the Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant system and into its grocery retail channels.

“We are proud to partner with Beyond Meat to produce a plant-based protein patty with all the heritage of our Jamaican family recipe,” Golden Krust president Haywood Hawthorne said in the announcement. “We are excited to share this innovation with consumers seeking plant-based protein options and still expect the authentic taste our fans love.”

The Jamaican hand-held pastry made with mild and spicy Beyond Meat was available at select Golden Krust restaurants this summer.

The company said the food innovation is being rolled out in over 100 Golden Krust restaurants and more than 1,000 supermarkets, initially along the East Coast.

“Golden Krust is bringing plant-based protein to the market in a new and different way, which is exciting for us at Beyond Meat,” Beyond Meat’s vice president of Foodservice Sales North America Tim Smith said.

Golden Krust products are currently distributed at 25,000 retail points of sale in North America, including Kroger, Walmart and Costco.
