Who is Van Gogh?

Vincent Van Gogh is a Dutch painter who lived from 1853 until 1890 and only sold one piece of artwork during his lifetime. Despite the lack of traction in his ten-year career, he became famous after death and is now regarded as one of the most renowned painters in history.

His work is highly regarded for its vibrant colors and beauty which draw witnesses in. Van Gogh created more than 900 oil paintings using multiple tools like chalk, pencils, charcoal and a reed pen.

Van Gogh's post-impressionist-styled works were sold for record-breaking prices in the late 20th century at auctions around the world. His most famous painting, The Starry Night, was created after Van Gogh cut his own ear off from mental health struggles and sold for $50 million in 1990.

Despite The Starry Night being his best-known piece, it does not have the highest value of all his artwork. Orchard with Cypresses sold for $117.2 million last November and Portrait of Dr. Paul Gachet sold for $82.5 million in 1990.

What is Beyond Van Gogh about?

Beyond Van Gogh touts itself as a new, truly immersive experience for visitors that breaks the barriers of current industry standards. By incorporating both still and moving images and a room with 360 degrees of video walls depicting the artist's famous works almost-hynoptically appearing and blending into each other, the exhibit can feel alive to visitors thanks to the manner in which it manipulates our senses.

Mathieu St-Arnaud, a French-Canadian creative director, and his team at Montreal's Normal Studio created the exhibit in 2020. Four trillion content pixels will be utilized throughout the exhibit to make visitors feel as if they've stepped into the Van Gogh paintings themselves.

Tickets must be purchased to attend the hour-long tour of the exhibit, ranging from $49.99 to $89.99 depending on the kind of perks you include. Tickets for children ages five to 15-years-old cost $28.99 and children under five can get in free without needing a ticket. Music played in the exhibit can be found in their spotify playlist at any time.
