The “Beyond Van Gogh” exhibit that opened in March in a temporary structure near University Town Center mall will be closing after a much-extended run.

The immersive traveling exhibition, which offers a video survey of the work of Vincent VanGogh, was originally announced to end in Sarasota on April 24, but the presenters have extended it by three months. The show will now close on July 24.

“Beyond Van Gogh” is one of about a half dozen different immersive art shows traveling around the world designed to bring visitors into the work of the Dutch master.

When organizers announced in October that the show was coming to Sarasota – before dates or a location were announced – thousands signed up for early notification when the details were released in January.

The show is divided into three spaces, beginning with images of Van Gogh paintings set against excerpts from letters to his brother, Theo, that are meant to tell about his life. There is a transitional space called the “Waterfall Room,” before visitors enter a 30,000-square-foot exhibition space. There, a roughly 20-minute sequence of projections and digital animations give motion to some of Van Gogh’s most famous pieces.

“The experience is more like walking inside one of his paintings,” Herald-Tribune critic Marty Fugate wrote in a review of the exhibition.

“Beyond Van Gogh” is in the East District at UTC Mall, 195 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota. For tickets and information: vangoghsarasota.com
