Bicyclist in critical condition after accident on Virginia Avenue; driver located

FORT PIERCE — A bicyclist was critically injured Saturday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on a Fort Pierce street, police said Sunday.

The bicyclist, whose name, age and gender were not disclosed, was heading west in the 700 block of Virginia Avenue at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday next to the driver of a silver and rose-gold-colored Cadillac XTS. The driver then swept into the bicyclist, causing severe bodily injury, Fort Pierce police said in a Facebook post.

The cyclist was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in critical condition. Monday the bicyclist was critical but stable, police said.

The driver fled the scene, but was located early Sunday by police. No further information was available.
