Bicyclist killed after traffic collision in southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A bicyclist is dead after being struck by a semi-truck Friday night, at the intersection of Wible and Planz roads, police said.

The Bakersfield Police Department said the collision occurred at 5:58 p.m., and the intersection will be closed for several hours while officers conduct the investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed the semi-truck was traveling north on Wible Road, while the bicyclist was traveling west on Planz Road at the time of the collision.

The driver involved in the crash returned to the scene after a short time, according to police.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors in this fatal collision. This investigation is ongoing.
