Bicyclist struck and killed by a driver at an intersection near I-595, police say

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a driver at a major intersection in Davie, police said.

The tragedy happened early Thursday at State Road 84 and Nob Hill Rd around 5:40 a.m., according to Davie police. The intersection is near Interstate 595, which runs from the Broward airport through West Broward.

Officers say the driver, who was heading north on Nob Hill Road, struck the bicyclist, who was crossing east on State Road 84. The cyclist was taken to the hospital and died, police said, are trying to identify family.

Officers closed part of the road until 8:48 a.m. for the investigation.

This is at least the fourth crash involving a bicyclist in South Florida this month.

On May 15, two bicyclists were struck and killed by a driver on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami-Dade. A bicyclist was also critically injured on May 18 after being hit by a car in Southwest Miami-Dade. And on Saturday, a car was caught on camera going into the bike lane and slamming into bicyclists in Fort Lauderdale.
