Taylor Sheridan has found his latest project, a story on the life of historic Comanche leader Quanah Parker.

Sheridan and his company, Bosque Ranch Productions, have optioned the rights to S.C. Gwynne’s bookEmpire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History.”

Gwyne’s “Empire of the Summer Moon” follows two distinct stories. The first tells the rise and fall of the Comanche tribe, while the second follows the life of Quanah Parker, who was the last great Comanche chief and son of pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker.

It’s unclear if the adaption will be a film or television series, but Sheridan is expected to write and direct the project, according to Deadline.

The book adaption is said to be a passion project for Sheridan, as bidding was competitive to secure the rights, according to Deadline. Sheridan and Jenny Wood will produce the project for Bosque Ranch Productions.

“Empire of Summer Moon” is just the latest project for Sheridan, a North Texas native who lives in nearby Weatherford.

Sheridan is working to deliver the final half of “Yellowstone” season 5 by this winter, which will be the last for the long-running Paramount Network series. A second season of “1923,” starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, is also in the works.

A contemporary “Yellowstone” sequel series, with the working title “2024”, is also on the docket and will star a mix of old and new faces. Texas native Matthew McConaughey is rumored to star in the show.

Other projects include “Land Man,” starring Billy Bob Thornton, which is set in the world of West Texas oil boomtowns. Casting is now underway for real-life oilfield workers to appear in the series as background actors.
