Biden has a big advantage with undecided voters over Trump

Just a few months away from Election Day, Democratic candidate Joe Biden has an 8-point lead over President Donald Trump nationally and appears to have a big advantage with undecided voters as well.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, which was conducted from July 15th to the 21st, found that 46% of registered voters said they would back Biden in the Nov. 3 election, while 38% would vote for Republican Trump.

The remaining 16% - those undecided, potentially persuadable voters – could prove crucial for both Biden and Trump as these voters could swing a close election in either direction.

In 2016, Reuters/Ipsos polling found that support among registered voters who had not backed a major party candidate was evenly split that summer between Trump and then Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

On Election Day, Trump won a majority of voters who said they decided in the final week.

But this year, the poll found that 61% of undecided or third-party registered voters said they would support Biden if they had to choose today, while 39% would vote for Trump.

70 percent of them disapprove of Trump's performance in office and they think the country is headed on the wrong track.

About 8 in 10 said they were personally concerned about the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed more than 141,000 Americans and forced millions out of work.
