The Biden campaign rolled out a 60-second ad Friday hitting former President Trump and two other GOP presidential candidates for their stances on abortion, underscoring the incumbent’s intention of using the pivotal issue in next year’s campaign.

The ad, titled “These Guys,” targets Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) for their views and policies on abortion. The ad vows that President Biden and Vice President Harris will “never allow a national abortion ban to become law.”

“As long as they are in office, decisions about your body will be made by you, not by them,” the ad states.

The ad highlights Trump’s past comments in which he suggested during the 2016 campaign that women who get an abortion should face some type of “punishment.” It also highlights how Trump has taken credit for the end of Roe v. Wade through the appointment of three conservative Supreme Court justices.

Abortion has been a huge issue in electoral politics since the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision in summer 2022. Democrats have seen a number of political victories that they’ve linked to voter anger over the restriction of abortion rights.

The 60-second clip from Biden’s campaign also points to DeSantis’s signing of a ban on abortion in Florida after six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many women know they are pregnant.

And it features comments from Scott saying he would sign the most conservative legislation possible on abortion if he is elected to the White House.

The ad targets Trump as he set to take part in a rally Friday night in South Dakota, where abortion has been banned with few exceptions.

“As Donald Trump visits states where women are suffering the consequences of his extreme, anti-abortion agenda, this ad reminds voters in states that have passed some of the most extreme abortion bans of Trump’s key role in appointing conservative justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “We will not shy away from casting a spotlight on extreme Republicans and their dangerous efforts to take away women’s right to choose.”

The ad will run on YouTube and Connected TV in Iowa, South Dakota and Florida.

After the rally, Trump is set to attend the Iowa-Iowa State football game Saturday in Ames. DeSantis will also visit Ames ahead of the rivalry game.

A Florida court Friday was also hearing arguments over the state’s 15-week abortion ban. If that ban is upheld, the six-week ban would go into effect.
