Biden campaign raises $48M in 2 days after VP pick

(Joe Biden): "Your next vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris."

In the 48 hours since he named U.S. Senator Kamala Harris as his VP, Joe Biden’s presidential campaign raised $48 million dollars, a campaign spokesman told Reuters.

(Sen. Kamala Harris): "I am ready to get to work."

Harris, who made her debut as Biden's running mate on Wednesday in Delaware, helped the campaign collect $26 million dollars in 24 hours after Biden announced his VP choice Tuesday, the campaign’s best day of fundraising yet.

The 55-year-old senator from California is the first Black woman and the first Asian-American, on a major-party U.S. presidential ticket.

In addition to energizing people to vote and outlining Biden’s policy vision, another role Harris will play is prosecuting the case against Trump and his response to the crisis.

Harris faulted President Trump for downplaying the risks of the pandemic, which has killed more than 165,000 Americans - the highest death toll in the world – and left tens of millions without jobs

Harris, who became the second Black female U.S. senator in history in 2016, will also be relied on to help mobilize African-Americans, the Democratic Party's most loyal constituency.

Four years ago, the first dip in Black voter turnout in 20 years contributed to Democrat Hillary Clinton's upset loss to Donald Trump in the presidential election.
