The record-smashing invasion of illegal immigrants into the United States, despite repeated claims by the president and vice president that the border is closed, has already made President Joe Biden’s term a failure, according to the architect of former President Donald Trump’s border policy.

Citing a new report that “180,034 persons” were apprehended at the border in May, Stephen Miller said it “shows that we have a failed presidency.”

In a Secrets interview, the former top policy adviser to Trump added, “That is the bottom line. If you are the president of a country and you cannot afford basic safety and security to your people, then you are already a failed president.”

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection numbers showed that more single adults were in the group of illegal immigrants apprehended but also that it was the third month for record numbers of unaccompanied minors.

The report said that of those caught, 62% were sent back under a coronavirus rule, but the rest were likely sent around the country.

The record numbers, the worst in 20 years, came on the heels of Vice President Kamala Harris’s highly criticized trip to Central American nations as part of her role as the border czar.

“You can't imagine anything more embarrassing for the vice president than to conclude what is a uniquely disastrous Latin American tour that’s been widely mocked by the left and the right than to come home and immediately have the Department of Homeland Security announced that it is the worst border month since Biden took office,” said Miller.

“Can you imagine anything more embarrassing than to go into Guatemala and say, ‘Do not come,’ which everybody knows they don't mean, like the world’s biggest wink behind ‘do not come,' and then 180,000 people say, ‘Oh no, we're coming,’” he added.

Trump made similar claims but then worked with Mexico and other nations to slow the flow of illegal immigrants, eventually creating a policy to keep them in Mexico while their entry requests were processed.

But Biden’s efforts to solve the border crisis, said Miller, are winning no respect.

“You are at the apex of your influence and authority,” Miller said of a new presidency. But with Biden and Harris, he added, “you have a situation where literally every single month, as you are claiming to be trying (to close the border), this situation is destabilizing more and more and more.”

He also joined with others, including some administration insiders, critical of how Harris handled her Central American trip where she bumbled questions and laughed about visiting the border.

“That laugh will be heard around the world,” said Miller. “People seeing this get the message of, ‘A-ha! That little line about do not come, that was a joke. The border’s open folks, come on in,’” he added.
