E-Verify helpful to Americans, businesses

In his recent column, "E-Verify system in Florida aimed at scaring off workers in worst jobs. Who will fill in?" Frank Cerabino is implying that everyday Americans are too good for certain kinds of jobs. What’s next? The cart pushers at Publix?

E-Verify has actually prevented tax and ID fraud by Americans. I wish the federal government would share those statistics. In my time at a previous employer, we had to terminate employment with several employees due to “incorrect Social Security numbers.”

Social Security numbers are also ways to confirm identities for health insurance and other employer-paid benefits. I would like to know if my number is being used by someone attempting to work in another state.

In a world of electronic tax reporting and shared databases of Social Security numbers, finding fraudster employees is increasing.

GOP candidate Ramaswamy wants to raise voting age; other interesting notes

Some random thoughts on current events:

E. Jean Carroll grabbed him by the wallet. When the jury finds for you, they let you do it.

For decades, we thought Russia had the second-best military in the world. Now we see Russia has the second-best military in Ukraine.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican candidate for president, proposes raising the age to vote to 25 years. About 67% of this 18 to 25 age group votes for Democratic Party candidates. Ramaswamy is following the classic Republican strategy of suppressing, possibly stopping, the vote of those who would not vote Republican.

Of course, Republicans still want young adults to buy guns, serve in the military and pay taxes. There is no evidence Republicans are making any policy changes that would bring more young adults into their party. Polls show a majority of young Americans want restrictions on gun sales, corporations and the rich to pay their fair share of taxes, respect for women's reproductive rights, and other policies deemed progressive by most Republicans.

CNN embarrassing; speak out against Trump

It seems CNN has learned nothing from the Dominion/Fox huge financial settlement.

Although not surprising, the network's "gift" of free campaign time to a continual liar is still beyond any comprehension. The management at CNN has changed drastically within the past year and the decision to broadcast a live "town hall" featuring the former twice-impeached and "forever soiled by his behavior" on Jan. 6, 2021, president was a very poor decision by a major news source that has never before been likened to FOX, OANN or Newsmax.

What a debacle!

Perhaps the management at CNN has decided to cash in while attempting to lure former FOX watchers to their network. Perhaps the management at CNN has decided to put its new ideology directly "in our faces" to gauge its popularity with the base of the current GOP. Whatever the reason, it was a major mistake. CNN is now being raked over the coals because of a horrid management decision.

The constant carping, lying and negative name-calling is a trait of the former president that we are all quite sick of hearing. He has brought a distrust of our government from former allies that our current president must now attempt to assuage.

His whining claim of victimhood is wearing thin. He has now given E. Jean Carroll more ammunition for another lawsuit by his childish behavior of needing to defame her and other women. Surely, there are others of the same mind who have had enough of his manipulative behavior.

Speak out, folks.

Don't buy Biden's claims about racism

Joe Biden is the primary cause of increasing racism in America. His recent speech at Howard University is a perfect example of that. Throughout the speech, he constantly shouted out that "white supremacy" is the leading reason for the division between the races. What a crock of liberal nonsense!

Instead of trying to do everything possible to cement good relations between all Americans, the resident of the Oval Office takes great pleasure in all the divisiveness that is becoming more prevalent. I doubt, though, that all this putrid speech is his idea alone. I am sure that those behind the scenes have a list of evil and crooked lies ready for him to spew at a drop of the hat. I don't think he can think too many things up himself.

Instead of believing Biden's rhetoric, the Black community should concentrate on the undocumented immigrants the liberals are allowing into the country who I think will, eventually, take away all the rights all Americans have fought for over the centuries.

Biden and the liberal puppeteers who control him should not be believed for one moment.

Illegal immigration a huge cost for Americans

The Federation for American Immigration Reform finds that as of 2022, American taxpayers shell out a net of $150.7 billion each year to cover the cost of illegal immigration.

Broken down, the data reveals that taxpayers pay $182 billion annually to provide services and benefits to undocumented immigrants and their dependents. These costs are offset by about $31 billion in taxes that are collected from the estimated 15.5 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, bringing the net     cost to $150.7 billion annually.

And don't tell me that they just do work that Americans won't do. My friend used to pick cotton back in Arkansas.

Take great care if you vote Republican nowadays

Today's Republican Party leaders:

Keep a confessed serial liar in Congress just so you can get his vote on your issues. To heck with the integrity of the office and the thousands of people he lied to to get elected.

Favor the rights of owning an AR-15 over the deaths of children. Thinking it is so cool to wear an AR-15 lapel pin to Congress and to go so far as to want to make a weapon that was designed to shred the human body, "America's gun."

Make it harder for people to vote (even though no significant election fraud occurred) under the ruse that you are protecting election integrity.

Doing absolutely nothing about immigration reform, so you can use it as a political tool against the Democrats.

Allow people like Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tommy Tuberville to become spokespersons for this once viable party.

Allow a twice-impeached, criminally indicted, serial liar to dominate the party.

Demand that school-age children only read books that they approve. Which is similar to saying you can only believe what they say you can.

Constantly creates catastrophes that don't exist (Gov. Ron DeSantis) and creates laws that restrict people's rights in order to solve them.

If you think Germany of the 1930s and 1940s could never happen again, be careful.

Read widely; vote wisely.
