CONNECTICUT — President-elect Joe Biden announced that Yale School of Medicine Associate Dean Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith will serve as his COVID-19 Equity Task Force chair when he assumes office.

Nunez-Smith is currently a co-chair of Biden’s transition COVID-19 advisory board. She is one of seven health nominees recently announced to the Biden administration.

Nunez- Smith is an associate professor of internal medicine, public health and management at Yale University and an associate dean for Health Equity Research at the Yale School of Medicine. Her research focuses on healthcare equity for marginalized populations.

Nunez-Smith helped advise Gov. Ned Lamont’s administration response to the pandemic, particularly when it came to equitable access to health care and resources for at-risk populations.

Lamont congratulated Nunez-Smith on her appointment.

“I couldn't think of a better person to serve in this incredibly valuable position. We're lucky to have her in this role,” Lamont tweeted.
