President Joe Biden labored to tell a dicey joke to honor labor unions on Wednesday.
Two days after Labor Day, he made a reference to his wife Jill Biden, a member of the National Education Association who became the first spouse of a president to depart the White House to perform a full-time job, continuing her work as a writing and English teacher.
"By the way, of course, I sleep with a NEA member every night," Biden told the crowd at an event in the East Room, adding: "Same one. same one."
Following the remark, Biden took a shot at his predecessor, former President Donald Trump. He said Trump used to boast about the stock market during his time in office.

"Instead, some people started seeing the stock market and corporate profits and executive pay as the only measure of economic growth," Biden said.
Before departing the event, Biden whispered into the microphone, noting he was supposed to "stop and walk out of the room here."
The president then walked into the crowd to meet attendees present for his speech.
