Biden raises $21.5 million since late April, trails Buttigieg in fundraising

WASHINGTON – Joe Biden's campaign announced Wednesday that it raised $21.5 million since the former vice president announced his presidential bid in late April.

His total, however, trails South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who raised more than $24.8 million in the second quarter. Biden's campaign maintains that it "raised more money per day than any other presidential campaign."

More than 256,000 donors gave over 436,000 donations and the average donation was $49, the campaign said. In the first 24 hours of his campaign, Biden raised $6.3 million, which was more than any other 2020 Democrat raised in that same time frame.

Biden's haul was greater than that of Sen. Bernie Sanders during the second quarter. Sanders brought in $18 million, and transferred about $6 million to his campaign from other accounts.

Biden campaign manager Greg Schultz said in statement that after two months in the 2020 primary race the campaign has "seen Americans in every corner of the country chip in to join this battle for the soul of our nation."

“We are grateful for the immense grassroots support we are seeing," Schultz also said. "We're continuing to build a campaign that energizes and expands Team Joe and puts us in a strong position to take on Donald Trump.”
