Biden reiterates support for abortion rights, LGBTQ protections during SOTU

During his State of the Union address, President Biden called on Congress to codify Roe v. Wade in federal law and to pass the Equality Act to offer protections for LGBTQ Americans.

JOE BIDEN: Here in the people's house, it's our duty to protect all the people's rights and freedoms. Congress must restore the right--

[YELLING]

JOE BIDEN: Congress must restore the right that was taken away in Roe v Wade and protect Roe v Wade--

[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]

Give every woman a constant right. The Vice President and I are doing everything to protect access to reproductive health care and safeguard patient safety, but already more than a dozen states are enforcing extreme abortion bans. Make no mistake about it, if Congress passes a national ban, I will veto it!

But let's also pass-- let's also passed the Bipartisan Equality Act to ensure LGBTQ Americans, especially transgender young people, can live with safety and dignity.
