NORMAN — The 2023 Big 12 football schedule finally — mercifully — has been released.

OU’s schedule is notable as much for who is not on the schedule as which teams are.

In what could be the Sooners’ final go-round in the Big 12, they won’t face Kansas State, Baylor or Texas Tech.

All three teams beat the Sooners last season. The Bears have beaten the Sooners in back-to-back seasons while the Wildcats have won three of four in the series.

OU will take on three of the four Big 12 newcomers, including opening the conference slate at Cincinnati on Sept. 23 and traveling to BYU on Nov. 18. It will also face Central Florida on Oct. 21 in Norman, leaving Houston as the only one of the new members not on the Sooners' schedule.

Here’s a look at the Sooners’ 2023 schedule game by game (times and TV listings will be released at a later date):

Sept. 2: Arkansas State at Oklahoma

The Sooners have won both meetings against the Red Wolves all time — 45-7 in 2000 and 61-0 in 1992. Both games were in Norman.

Sept. 9: SMU at Oklahoma

The home-and-home series, which includes a return game in 2027, was a late addition to the schedule after the Sooners’ previously scheduled series with Georgia was wiped out due to OU’s impending move to the SEC. The teams haven’t met since 1995.

Sept. 16: Oklahoma at Tulsa

The Sooners have won the last nine meetings against the Golden Hurricane, with the last loss coming in 1996. The Sooners haven’t lost in Tulsa since 1942.

Sept. 23: Oklahoma at Cincinnati

The Sooners have won both meetings with the Bearcats, 31-29 in 2010 in Cincinnati and 52-26 in 2008 in Norman.

Sept. 30: Iowa State at Oklahoma

OU beat the Cyclones 27-14 last season in the first time an unranked Sooners team played the Cyclones since 1999. OU has won three in a row against Iowa State.

Oct. 7: Oklahoma vs. Texas (Dallas)

The Sooners will try to make up for last season’s 49-0 shellacking by the Longhorns, their worst loss in series history and the first time Texas shutout OU since 1965.

Oct. 21: Central Florida at Oklahoma

OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel gets a chance to face his former program. From 2019-21, Gabriel threw for 8,037 yards and 70 touchdowns with 14 interceptions for UCF. The Sooners have yet to face the Golden Knights.

Oct. 28: Oklahoma at Kansas 

The Jayhawks get at least one more shot to snap the Sooners’ long winning streak in the series. OU has won 18 consecutive meetings, including last season’s 52-42 victory — a game Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels missed due to injury.

Nov. 4: Oklahoma at Oklahoma State

With Trace Ford’s transfer to the Sooners, his return to Stillwater — in perhaps the final Bedlam matchup for some time — figures to give the game even more juice than normal.

Nov. 11: West Virginia at Oklahoma

The Sooners fell 23-20 last season in Morgantown, W.Va., their first loss to West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12.

Nov. 18: Oklahoma at BYU

The Sooners have met the Cougars just twice before, and have lost both meetings. The Cougars upset OU 14-13 in 2009 in Arlington, Texas, after the Sooners lost Sam Bradford to a shoulder injury. The other meeting, a 31-6 BYU win, came in the 1994 Copper Bowl.

Nov. 24: TCU at Oklahoma

Last year’s meeting, a 55-24 Horned Frogs blowout, served notice that the Sooners could be in trouble and that eventual national runner-up TCU was for real. The Horned Frogs haven’t won in Norman since 2005. The game will be the Sooners’ first Black Friday game since 2018.
