2022 OU, OSU football schedules released
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State announced their 2022 football schedules on Wednesday.
OU will open the season Sept. 3 at home against Texas-El Paso, while OSU begins the fall on Sept. 3 at Boone Pickens Stadium against Central Michigan, a club that surprised the Cowboys in 2016.
OU's annual clash against Texas is set for Oct. 8 in Dallas. And the Bedlam game next fall is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Norman.

LOUISIANA TECH: Louisiana Tech has hired Texas Tech offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie as its next football coach. Cumbie spent this past season as Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator and went 1-3 as interim head coach following the firing of Matt Wells in late October. Cumbie takes over at Louisiana Tech for Skip Holtz.
Llanusa leads Sooners past SMU
Ana Llanusa scored 25 points to lead Oklahoma past SMU 84-72 in women's basketball late Tuesday night in Dallas.
OU (6-1) scored a combined 51 points over the third and fourth quarters to put away the Mustangs. Freshman guard Kelbie Washington added 10 assists for the Sooners, who are off to their best start to a season since 2015.
Kanter adds 'Freedom' to last name
For Enes Kanter Freedom, it’s been an eventful week one year in the making.
The Boston Celtics center and Turkey native fulfilled an off-the-court goal on Monday when he became a citizen of the United States and legally changed his name at an oath ceremony in a Boston courthouse.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment since the day I stepped in America,” said Freedom, a former Oklahoma City Thunder player. “Definitely one of the most unforgettable — maybe the most unforgettable moment that I had in my life.”
The 29-year-old Freedom has been outspoken about Turkey over the years, routinely criticizing the Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Freedom cannot return to his homeland for fear of arrest.
HEAT: Miami star Bam Adebayo needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and is likely out until at least mid-January. It's the first major injury of Adebayo's five pro seasons. He's averaging a career-best 18.7 points for Miami this season, along with 10.2 rebounds per game.
NFL: Desperate for depth at running back, the Seattle Seahawks signed 36-year-old Adrian Peterson to their practice squad on Wednesday. The former Oklahoma and Minnesota Vikings star played briefly this season for depth-shy Tennessee.
MLB: Major league teams committed to over $1 billion in salaries in one day for the first time Wednesday, hours before the league was expected to lock out the players following the 10:59 p.m. (Oklahoma time) expiration of the collective bargaining agreement.
The Texas Rangers led the spending spree, finalizing deals with shortstop Corey Seager for $325 million over 10 years and infielder Marcus Semien for $175 million over seven years.
There were 16 player deals and counting announced Wednesday that totaled $1,011,250,000, part of more than $1.9 billion in new contracts handed out in the days ahead of the CBA expiration. ...
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber and the Tampa Bay Rays finalized an $8 million, one-year free-agent contract on Wednesday. The 35-year-old Kluber had his third consecutive injury-plagued season in 2021, going 5-3 with a 3.83 ERA in 16 starts for the New York Yankees. ...
The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a one-year deal with second baseman Rougned Odor. The 27-year-old Odor spent last season with the New York Yankees, hitting .202 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs in 102 games. ...
The Houston Astros signed right-hander Héctor Neris to a $17 million, two-year contract, bringing an experienced closer to the American League champions. Neris has saved 84 games over eight seasons for Philadelphia, including a career-high 28 in 2019. ...
The Arizona Diamondbacks made a move to solidify the back end of their bullpen on Wednesday, adding four-time All-Star Mark Melancon on a two-year deal worth a reported $14 million. The right-hander had 39 saves last season with San Diego.
NHL: Los Angeles Kings forward Brendan Lemieux has been suspended for five games for biting Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk last weekend. Lemieux will forfeit $38,750 in salary while under suspension.
