Big 8 Season Wrap-Up: Postseason honors and final standings

With the end of the winter sports season, coaches and and players celebrate their accomplishments with end of the season accolades and awards. Here are the Big 8 conference postseason awards and final standings for wrestling student-athletes.

Boys Basketball Final Standings

The Concord and Jonesville boys basketball teams shared the Big 8 conference title and finished their seasons at 11-3 overall. Homer finished in third with a 10-4 overall record. Reading finished the season with a 9-5 overall record. Bronson came in fifth with a 8-6 record. Union City finished in sixth with an overall record of 5-9. Quincy came in seventh with a conference record of 2-12. Springport finished eighth with a final conference record of 0-14.

J.V. standings saw Union City finish undefeated with a 14-0 overall record. Bronson finished with a 10-4 record. Jonesville finished 9-4 this season. Reading finished 6-8 this season. Homer finished 5-9 this season. Quincy finished 5-9. Concord finished 4-9. Springport finished 2-12.

Boys Basketball All-Conference

The Big 8 boys prep hoops most valuable players of the 2021-22 season were Senior Graeley Sprague of Concord and Junior Brady Wright of Jonesville.

Receiving All-Conference accolades were Junior Aden Hathaway of Bronson; Senior Reagan Mayer of Bronson; Senior Graeley Sprague of Concord; Senior Omarion Culliver of Concord; Junior Chase Bryant of Homer; Senior Kyle Landis of Homer; Junior Brady Wright of Jonesville; Junior Colton Wiler of Reading; Senior Eli Irelan of Reading; and Senior Kyle Johnson of Union City.

Receiving honorable mention All-Conference honors were Kamrom Brackett of Bronson; Isaac Waldron of Concord; Davey Mohn of Homer; Seniors Kaden Playford and Curtis Knapp of Jonesville; Junior Tyler Scholfield of Jonesville; Ashtyn Morris and Sam Sawyer of Quincy; Junior Maverick Messenger of Reading; Kaleb Hawes and Caleb Kregal of Springport; and Terrance Morgan Jr. of Union City.

Girls Basketball Final Standings

The Jonesville girls basketball team won the conference championship for the second season in a row and finished with a 13-1 overall record. Springport and Bronson finished with 11-3 records. Reading finished the season with a 8-6 conference record. Homer had a 7-7 conference record. Concord had a 4-10 conference record. Union City and Quincy both finished with 1-13 conference records.

J.V. basketball final standings saw Springport finish 13-0 in the conference. Jonesville finished with a 12-1 overall record. Reading placed third in the conference with a 9-5 overall record. Bronson concluded the season with a 8-6 overall record. Quincy finished with a 6-8 record. Homer had a 4-10 overall record. Union City had a 3-11 record, and Concord finished with a 0-14 record.

Girls Basketball All-Conference

Jonesville Senior Mackenzie Baker received the most valuable player award for the 2021-22 season as well as All-Conference honors.

Other All-Conference honorees for the 2021-22 season were Junior Haylie Wilson of Bronson; Freshman Aubrey Calloway of Bronson; Senior Jamiya Rogers of Concord; Sophomore Paige Austin of Homer; Senior Marissa Lehman of Jonesville; Senior Kylie Ward of Jonesville; Senior Mallory Wheeler of Reading; Senior Ryann Locke of Springport; and Sophomore Maddux Overweg of Springport.

Honorable mention All-Conference honorees for the 2021-22 were Jadyn Cary of Bronson; Hadley Kettwich and Maria Stevens of Concord; Emma Jones of Homer; Senior Natalie Doyle of Jonesville; Sophomore Lyra Nichols of Jonesville; Haley Hinds of Quincy; Freshman Aubree Ervans of Reading; Brenna Crittenden of Springport; and Megan Russell, Jordan Chard and Madison Wilbur of Union City.

Wrestling Final Standings

Union City won the team conference championship this season. Bronson came in second place. Springport finished in third place. Jonesville finished in fourth place. Reading finished in fifth place. Homer finished in 6th place. Quincy finished in seventh place. Concord finished in eighth place.

Wrestling Weight Class Medal Honorees

At 103-pounds, Logan Mears won the league title. Aiden Fill of Bronson finished second. Erik Dykstra of Springport finished third and Landon Winder finished fourth.

At 112-pounds, Owen Kimmons won the league title. Mason Hawthorne of Union City came in second. Cody Nichols of Jonesville finished in third and Caleb Rose of Quincy came in fourth.

At 119-pounds, Perry Lake of Bronson won the league title. Abigail Geairn of Homer came in second place. Carter Pierce of Quincy came in third and Gene Wagner of Jonesville finished fourth.

At 125-pounds, Landyn Crance of Union City won the league title. David Becker of Springport finished in second. Jacob Rief of Quincy came in third place and Hunter Dewey of Reading finished in fourth.

At 130-pounds, Tyler Milks of Jonesville won the league title. Lukas Selph of Reading finished in second place. Benjamin Butler of Springport came in third and Aiden Taylor of Union City finished fourth.

At 135-pounds, Joe Sunkle of Springport won the league title. Addison Mosley of Reading came in second place. Colin Thompson of Concord finished third and Andrew Tundevold of Union City came in fourth place.

At 140-pounds, Brayton Mears of Union City won the league title. Alex Miller of Homer came in second. Chase Caudill of Springport finished third and drew Seekman of Bronson finished in fourth place.

At 145-pounds, Colton Russell of Union City took home the first place medal. Derek Ballinger of Jonesville took second place. Rylinn Hale of Springport took third place. Deblin Duff of Bronson took fourth place.

At 152-pounds, Aricin Smith took home the league title. Dylan Sanford of Springport took second place. Levi Schultz finished in third place. Maddox Miller of Union City finished in fourth.

At 160-pounds, Garrett Lobe of Union City won the league title. Carson Norton of Bronson took second place. Austin Bowers of Jonesville took third place. Michael Daniels of Quincy took fourth.

At 171-pounds, Matt Riehle of Springport took home the league title. Jacob Britten of Bronson took second place. Jordan VanSickle of Jonesville finished in third and Gavin Peet of Quincy took fourth.

At 189-pounds, Davin George of Quincy won the league title. Jacob Dixon of Bronson came in second place. Isaac Shively of Jonesville finished third and Garrett Halder finished in fourth.

At 215-pounds, Grady Lobe of Union City took home the league title. Matthew Blankenship of Bronson came in second place. Austin Tieman of Springport came in third place. Evan McColley of Jonesville took fourth place.

At Heavyweight, Eathan Westfall of Reading won the league title. Hunter Gilles of Union City took second place. Hunter Depew of Homer took third and Jayden Post of Bronson finished fourth.

Competitive Cheer Final Standings

Quincy took home the league championship for the 2021-22 season and earned three first place finishes at conference jamborees. Concord finished second and earned three second place finishes at conference jamborees. Jonesville finished third in conference standings and earned one first place jamboree finish as well as three third place finishes. Reading took fourth place, and the Rangers earned one top three finish in league jamborees. Springport took fifth place. Homer took sixth place and Union City took seventh place.

Competitive Cheer All-Conference

Earning All-Conference honors for the 2021-22 season were Georgia Weeks of Concord; Rylie Weeks of Concord; Livia Sprouse of Homer; Arial Brandon of Jonesville; Serenity Smirtka of Jonesville; Hope Medendorp of Quincy; Flo Vito of Quincy; Grace Donay of Quincy; Mya Gillett of Reading; Morgan Nowery of Springport; and Leonie Cadoret of Union City.

Honorable mention All-Conference honors were Shianne Alejandro of Concord; Savanna Alejandro of Concord; Annie McMeeking of Homer; Kathrine Darling of Jonesville; Savannah Herman of Quincy; Katie Wilson of Quincy; Tasia Shafer of Reading; Alayna Moore of Reading; Rebekkah Betz of Springport; and Lotus Beckmeyer of Union City.
