Drivers at the intersection of South Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane are getting used to a new traffic pattern.

Construction of what the city of Redding calls a modern, two-lane roundabout began last week and now a temporary one-lane traffic circle is in place. The intersection's traffic signal has been removed and yield signs are in place to help guide drivers.

The city has contracted with Tullis Inc. for the $4.1 million roundabout project, which is due to be finished by November 2022.

"This roundabout will be the largest in the Redding area, similar to the roundabout at Deschutes Road in Anderson," city officials said.

Construction continued Wednesday, June 15, 2022, where the city of Redding is building what it calls a modern, two-lane roundabout at the intersection of South Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane.

The roadwork is part of the new traffic flow to accommodate an expected increase in traffic for the new Costco Warehouse that will anchor the River Crossing MarketPlace. There's no word yet on when the new Costco will open.

Josh Anthony, construction manager with the city, said the roundabout was the best solution for a smooth and safe traffic flow due to the commercial business growth on the east side of Interstate 5 in south Redding.

"We know it will be a big adjustment for the community, but the change will pay off long-term,” Anthony said in a press release.

City officials say the work will encompass excavation, curbs, curb ramps and sidewalks, driveways, storm drainage, utility relocations and adjustments, electrical work and landscaping.

Work is taking place both during daytime hours and at night between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
