Fortune magazine released its annual ranking of the top 100 best companies to work for, and while none of the companies is based in Arizona, a handful are among the state’s largest employers.

The magazine used data collected by Great Place to Work, which surveyed workers nationwide across demographics including ethnicity, race, gender and full- and part-time employees on the quality of the employee’s experience working at each company. To make the list, companies must have at least 1,000 U.S. employees and not be a government agency.

• Hilton was the highest ranked of any of Arizona’s top employers, coming in second on Fortune’s list. According to Arizona Republic data, Hilton employs about 6,000 people in Arizona.

• American Express ranked third on Fortune’s list and employs about 7,400 people in the state.

• Marriott International ranked 10^th on the list, and employs 5,300 people here.

• Deloitte ranked 17th for best companies to work for. Deloitte has about 1,700 employees in Arizona.

• Nationwide ranked 21^st on Fortune’s list and has about 1,400 employees in Arizona. Nationwide opened a regional office in north Scottsdale at the company’s Cavasson development.

• Edward Jones ranked 62^nd on the list and employs about 1,400 in the state.

• Bank of America ranked 63^rd and employs about 8,600 in Arizona.

• Discover Financial Services ranked 81^st and employs 3,200 in Arizona.

Several of Arizona’s largest employers also ranked highly on Forbes’ Best Large Employers ranking, a separate ranking, including Intel, Mayo Clinic, American Express, Northrop Grumman, W.L. Gore and Associates and Charles Schwab.
