At least 15 people have been injured after a powerful explosion rocked an optical and mechanical plant in the town of Sergiyev Posad, Moscow Oblast, on Aug. 9.

●       Wagner fighters in Belarus not a threat to NATO – alliance spokesperson
Mercenaries of the Wagner Group private military company currently stationed in Belarus, do not represent a direct or indirect threat to NATO, Alliance spokesperson Oana Lungescu said in an interview with Polish news agency PAP on Aug. 8.

The Kremlin has begun to feel the threat of diplomatic isolation following the recent Ukraine peace summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and now wants to hold a similar summit of its own, The Moscow Times reported on Aug. 9, citing diplomatic sources.

●       Blinken calls Russia's promises to supply free grain to African countries "laughable"
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Russia's proposition to supply some very limited amount of grain to African countries "a drop in the bucket" that is "laughable," despite the issue not being a laughing matter, in a discussion of the Black Sea Grain Initiative with the BBC on Aug. 8.

●       Poland wants EU help to build agro-ports to help ship Ukraine’s grain
Poland called on the European Union to help boost port capacity to allow more Ukrainian grain shipments through the Baltic Sea, while insisting it will keep a sales ban on Ukrainian crops, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus told Bloomberg on Aug. 8.

●       Hungary finally approves Ukraine's new ambassador – report
Hungarian President Katalin Novak has finally signed off on the appointment of Fedir Shandor as Ukraine’s Ambassador, Hungarian TV channel ATV reported on Aug. 8, citing unnamed diplomatic sources.

●       Corruption in Ukraine at its lowest level for 20 years, says finance minister
Ukraine is experiencing its lowest level of corruption in two decades, Ukraine’s Finance Minister, Serhiy Marchenko, said in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on Aug. 9.

●       Rheinmetall bought Belgian Leopard tanks for Ukraine – report
German defense contractor Rheinmetall AG has purchased 50 Leopard-1 main battle tanks from Belgium, in order to ultimately send them to Ukraine, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported on Aug. 8.
