Big Boy property, eyed for soccer stadium, donated to downtown GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Big Boy property in downtown Grand Rapids has been donated to the Downtown Development Authority.

The 407 Pearl St. property near US-131 is one of the sites Grand Action 2.0 is considering for the planned soccer stadium coming to downtown Grand Rapids. No decision has been made yet, according to DDA documents, but one is expected in the coming months.

A spokesperson for the DeVos family previously told News 8’s partner Crain’s Grand Rapids Business that Dan and Pamella DeVos bought the property “because they believed it held tremendous potential for a future community use benefitting West Michigan residents, employees and visitors. The current tenant vacating the site provides the opportunity for advancing exploration of future uses in the weeks and months ahead.”

They acquired the land in 2022. Big Boy closed in December of 2023, decades after it opened.
