Big Brother US will return to CBS next month with a special season.

The show's 22nd season will premiere on Wednesday, August 5, with the first-ever live move-in event. Episodes will then air on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm.

And there'll be some familiar faces returning too, as TV Line reports the house will be opening its doors to "past winners, fan-favourites and some of the best to never win the game" to serve as an all-star season.

The show will, of course, be compiling to new health and safety regulations, with CBS putting in place a COVID-19 compliance officer to protect the "welfare of everyone involved" and make sure that the cast and crew adhere to specific health and safety protocols.

There will also be no studio audience for Thursday’s live show and housemates will be placed in quarantine and tested several times prior to entering the house.

Housemates will then be tested on a weekly basis during their stay and have no contact with any crew members.

There will also be regular testing of staff and crew members and personal protective equipment will be required, while the crew will also work in pods to ensure social distancing.

The news of Big Brother US's return comes after it was reported that CBS has started pre-production on season two of Love Island US.

The series, which will also be following all new COVID-related health and safety protocols, has moved from its original location of Fiji to Las Vegas hotel Cromwell.

The US version of the series is going ahead despite the cancellation of the UK's summer 2020 series by ITV.

Big Brother USA returns to CBS on Wednesday, August 5.
