Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids a huge success

Newark City Schools teachers and students, led by McGuffey Elementary, raised over $19,000 recently for Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids at Park Lanes.

HEATH ― Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Licking and Perry counties recently raised over $136,000, surpassing its goal of $100,000, through its Bowl for Kids at Park Lanes.

"Every dollar raised will be used to ignite the power and defend the potential of children in our community," Big Brothers Big Sisters executive director John Wilson said in a press release. "This is an amazing community, and we are forever grateful for your support. We want to thank Park Lanes for hosting the event."

The three largest corporate supporters were Licking Memorial Hospital, The Energy Cooperative, and The Moose Lodge. Students and teachers from Newark City Schools raised over $19,000 combined, with McGuffey Elementary leading the way with over $7,000.

There were over 90 teams with more than 450 bowlers. Over 60 local businesses sponsored the event in some capacity. The bowlers were dressed in their tropical luau clothes as the theme was Luau at the Lanes.

"Special thanks to Mayor Jeff and Helen Hall, and WNKO/WHTH news director and long-time Big Brother Dave Doney for dedicating their day to this event, helping to assure its success," Wilson added. "We made a major focus this year on recruiting and are always looking for adult volunteers to become Bigs. If anyone is interested in getting more information or signing up they can go to BBBSLP.org."

Big Brothers Big Sisters has now raised over $140,000 this year.
