Big Country hoops: Stamford Lady Bulldogs blow out Hawley behind Applin's 35 points

The state-ranked Stamford Lady Bulldogs blew out Hawley on Tuesday, thanks to a stellar performance offensively as a team.

Laylonna Applin scored 35 points in Stamford's 86-26 win. Shandlee Mueller also had an impressive night, notching 25 points.

Stamford, which entered the game ranked No. 16 in the TABC 2A Girls Rankings, is 25-2 overall and 7-0 in district play.

Hawley is 8-14, 2-5.

Winters vs. Roscoe (girls)

At Roscoe, defense helped the Plowgirls run away from Winters.

They beat the Blizzards 50-2, allowing just one basket in the third quarter. Roscoe forced 33 turnovers and held Winters, a 10-win team, to a 1-of-14 clip from the field.

Kaidy Omales led the Plowgirls, 13-2, with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting. As a team, Roscoe went 5-of-11 from the three-point line.

The Plowgirls are 4-0 in district play while Winters is 0-4.

Lueders-Avoca vs. Knox City

At Knox City, the Greyhounds boys added another to the win column, beating Lueders-Avoca 49-18.

Bryson Callaway had a team-high 20 points for the Greyhounds, while Hayden Swanson chipped in with 10. The Raiders only had five players, and Zaebrion Mays was their leading scorer with 10 points.

Knox City has won four games in a row and is 4-1 in district play. The Raiders are 0-3 in district.

The Lady Greyhounds also won handily, beating the Raiders 61-18. Rebecca Ruiz led Knox City with 16 points.

Like the boys team, Lueders-Avoca only had five players.

The Lady Greyhounds are 7-13 overall, while the Raiders are 0-10.

Stephenville vs. Gatesville (girls)

At Gatesville, Stephenville won its second district game, this time cruising to a 72-24 win over Gatesville.

Mya Wesley led the Honeybees with 21 points, while Trysten Monk and Zoe Birdwell each scored 11.

The Honeybees are 19-9, 2-1 and are back home Friday against Brownwood.

Anson vs. Hamlin (boys)

At Hamlin, Anson had no problem with Hamlin, as the Tigers won 54-17 to get above .500 for the season.

Mason Hagler scored a team-high 14 points, while Blake Vinson scored 13. Senior Dylyn Pyle logged six assists, and Lane Dollar led the Tigers with six steals.

Anson is 10-9. The Tigers face Cisco at home on Friday. The Pied Pipers are 2-11 overall.

Brock vs. Dublin (girls)

At Dublin, a tough season continued for Dublin, as the Lady Lions fell 50-22 to visiting Brock.

They kept close with Brock in the first quarter, trailing 8-6 But Dublin went scoreless in the second quarter, putting them in a hole they were unable to escape from.

Gabriyela Herrera led Dublin with 12 points. The Lady Lions are 4-21 overall.
