'It's a big deal'

Jun. 18—WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University has been rec- ognized for its excellence in various categories by Colleges of Distinction.

" It's a big deal for a differ- ent set of reasons," Eastern President Elsa Nunez said. She said parents of prospective students look at the rankings, whereas the pro — spective students do not.

Eastern has been recognized by Colleges of Distinction since 2009. This year, the university was recognized in various different categories, includ ing the following: Public Colleges; Connecticut Colleges, Business and Education Programs; Career Development; Equity and Inclusion; and Military Support.

" We complete a thorough review of the programs in question before giving the award," Colleges of Distinction Chief Operating Officer Tyson Schritter said in a release from Eastern. " We're looking for such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services and successful outcomes for students.
