Big-deal cornhole tournament tossin' bags in Fairfield this weekend

Professional and amateur cornhole players in Greater Cincinnati will have a chance to compete this weekend at the American Cornhole Organization's Cincinnati Major.

The tournament takes place on Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, in Fairfield.

Festivities kick off on Thursday, May 19, with a pre-party tournament at Liberty Center in Liberty Township. Gates open at 5 p.m. with cornhole games starting at 7 p.m.

Anyone can play for a $20 fee at the Thursday event. According to the event's Facebook page, there will also be live music by Cincinnati artist Max Geers, prizes and giveaways.

Fans can watch Major tournament games on Friday and Saturday at Gametime Training Center (530 Quality Blvd., Fairfield), where 300 players from 15 states are expected to compete. Games run all day long, and play begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. There is a $5,000 guaranteed purse for Major participants.

The American Cornhole Organization, which is headquartered in Milford, Ohio, is currently in its 17th season. The ACO World Championships take place this July in Branson, Missouri.
