Fans who tuned in to watch Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year spotted an unfortunate result of the seating arrangements during the show.

Maya Jama took part in the TV show aired on Boxing Day, joined by quizmaster Jimmy Carr plus Stacey Solomon, David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade, James Acaster and Joe Lycett.

As is tradition (although they were socially distanced this year), the celebrity guests were sat in front of a collage of the most talked-about celebrities and public figures of the year.

However, viewers spotted that radio presenter Jama had been seated in front of a huge photo of her ex-partner, Stormzy, whom she dated for four years.

One fan tweeted: “Imagine you rock up to your workplace and there’s an 8ft picture of your ex directly behind your desk.:

Another wondered if producers had placed Jama in front of the image on purpose, writing: “Who made Maya Jama sit in front of a picture of Stormzy?!”

“I just find it really awkward that there’s a massive picture of Stormzy behind Maya Jama on #BigFatQuizofTheyear,” one said.

“Maya Jama positioned directly under Stormzy cheeky move #BigFatQuizofTheyear,” one fan observed.

Stormzy namechecked Jama on his critically acclaimed 2019 album Heavy is the Head, following their split.

On “Song Lessons”, he raps: “Fast forward now, my nephew’s still asking for his Auntie Maya/ Guess this is the karma for what I done to Maya.”

He continues: “I just stood and let it burn, I couldn’t down the fire. Lord, I pray you make it easy, that’s my one desire.”

Big Fat Quiz of the Year came under fire earlier this month after revealing its cast of celebrity guests, which didn’t include any female comedians.

The discrepancy was noted by comedians including Fern Brady and Angela Barnes, who called out the show on social media.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Channel 4 told The Independent: “From the very outset, both The Big Fat Quiz of the Year and The Big Fat Quiz of Everything have featured a brilliant line up of male and female talent.”

The 2020 episode of Big Fat Quiz of the Year is available to watch on All4.
