IN THE BIG INNING: Nowata scores 9 runs in frame to turn back CV; Dewey rips Skiatook

Following is a roundup of area baseball action._

CANEY VALLEY vs. NOWATA

Caney Valley motored to a 4-0 lead and remained in front, 5-2, through four-and-a-half innings.

But, Nowata then generated a tidal wave of offense to score nine runs and surge to the win, 11-5, in Nowata.

Caney Valley ripped six singles -- led by Tate Longan and Rocky Hester with two each -- to fuel its offense. Zack Ketchum and Dalton Martin added one single apiece.

Hester drove in three runs and Cooper Brim added one.

Logan Fowler walked twice and stole a base.

Nowata needed only three singles, to go with 15 walks, two hit batsmen and three Caney Valley errors to rack up its 11 runs.

Michael Prince drove home three runs for Nowata, followed by Tyler Flowers and Keyshawn Verner with two RBI's apiece.

Recording multiple walks were Verner, Kaleb Bashford, Benton Blasi, Trevor Emberson, Jacob Taylor and Flowers.

Caney Valley used six different pitchers to try to stem the Nowata assault. Fowler struck out three batters in 1.2 innings. Dalton Conner, Martin and Hester each turned scoreless efforts in brief stints.

Prince and Emberson split pitching time for Nowata. Emberson didn't allow an earned run in four innings; Prince struck out seven batters in three innings.

DEWEY

Dewey High's baseball team rolled into this week on the momentum of a lopsided win at Skiatook, 10-5.

But, on Monday, Lincoln Christian outlasted the Bulldoggers (17-14), 8-2.

Following are summaries from the games.

DEWEY 10, SKIATOOK 5: Logan Alspach smashed a homer and a single and drove in three runs to set the pace. Jake Vanatta and Zane Griggs both added two RBI's. Griggs finished 2-for-4. Parker Garrison plated one run. Eight different Doggers scored at least one run. Griggs took care of business on the mound, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in six innings. He struck out seven. Easton Davis finished up the final inning in relief.

LINCOLN CHRISTIAN 8, DEWEY 2: Trent Muninger and Vanatta each drove home a run (Davis, Alspach), but Dewey didn't keep up with the Bulldogs. Conner Moody, Bryce Sickler and Griggs each delivered a hit for Dewey. Dewey head coach Riley Allen had Sickler, Lathe Griggs and Karson Johnson each worked two innings. Sickler allowed only one run and struck out two.
