Some big moves in state soccer rankings: Here's where Section V boys and girls teams fit

The new set of New York State Sports Writers Association rankings for boys and girls soccer have been released and for Section V teams, there was some minor movement overall.

But in Class B boys soccer, Hornell makes an enormous leap from No. 19 to No. 7 this week while Bishop Kearney/Chesterton slides out of the top 10.

Here’s how the local teams fared in the newest polls.

Ranked Section V boys soccer teams

Class AA

McQuaid remains at No. 6 and Fairport moves up a spot to No. 13 from 14.

Scarsdale of Section I remains at No. 1.

Class A

Wayne remains at No. 3 but is likely to fall after a season-ending loss this week in the Section V Tournament. Pittsford Sutherland jumps two spots to No. 18 from No. 20 and Garden City of Section VIII remains at the top of the poll.

Class B

Briarcliff of Section I remains at No. 1 but there are some big shifts for Section V teams. Bishop Kearney/Chesterton, ranked No. 2 last week, falls to No. 12 after going 1-1-1 in the final week of the regular season while Hornell jumps to No. 7 from the 19 spot last week.

Livonia joins the rankings at No. 17 after being unranked last week and Attica/Alexander is at No. 20 after sitting at No. 18 last week.

Class C

Avon remains at No. 1 as it has all season and Red Creek remains at No. 12.

Class D

Fillmore is still No. 2 behind No. 1 Chazy and Harley Allendale Columbia remains at No. 8.

Naples, ranked No. 10 last week, falls out of the rankings this week while Mount Morris moves up to No. 15 (a five-way tie) after holding the No. 18 spot last week.

Ranked Section V girls soccer teams

Class AA

Webster Schroeder moves up to spots to No. 10 from the 12 spot and Penfield is at No. 22, up one from No. 23 last week.

Shaker of Section I remains at the top.

Class A

Pittsford Mendon stays level at No. 5 and Spencerport remains at No. 8 for  a second straight week.

At No. 21 is Greece Athena, up from No. 22 the week before. Honeoye Falls-Lima, ranked No. 23 last week, is not ranked this week.

New Hartford-III remains the top-ranked team.

Class B

Palmyra-Macedon is still at No. 2 behind No. 1 Schalmont-II and Haverling remains at No. 5 as the only ranked B teams in Section V.

Class C

The No. 2 spot still belongs to Byron-Bergen and Gananda is at No. 5 for another week.

Geneseo is ranked No. 9, up a spot from No. 10, and Wheatland-Chili moves to No. 10 from No. 11. At No. 13 is Marcus Whitman from No. 14 last week and Holley is at No. 18 from No. 19.

Warsaw joins the poll at No. 22 while Marion and Canisteo-Greenwood, in a tie at No. 25 last week, are not ranked.

Class D

Fillmore stays at No. 2 and Northstar remains at No. 8 while Genesee Valley/Belfast climbs to No. 14 from No. 16.
