Big-name artists to bring array of ’80s hits to Modesto region. See when, where, who

Rick Springfield will lead the “I Want My 80s Tour,” along with other hit-makers from the era, in Murphys. There also will be funny business going on in the Modesto region, with a pair of shows featuring popular comedians.

A pair of cultural events also return, the Greek Food Festival and the Assyrian Festival. Here’s a look at some of the entertainment planned from Sept. 16-22.

1980s tour

Rick Springfield, The Hooters, John Waite and Tommy Tutone hit the Ironstone Amphitheatre in Murphys with their “I Want My 80s Tour.” All of the performers will bring their hits from the 1980s pop/rock era.

Comedian and magician Piff the Magic Dragon brings his humor to the Turlock Community Theatre. The comic is on the road with a new show for 2023, along with Chihuahua Mr. Piffles and Jade Simone. For the past seven years, Piff has headlined at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Greek fest

The Greek Food Festival returns to Modesto with a Greek dinner, homemade pastries, marketplace, coffeehouse, live music and entertainment, church tours and more. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church has been hosting the event since 1966.

Assyrian fest

Experience the culture at this year’s Assyrian Festival at the Stanislaus County Fairground. There will be food, exhibits, live music, Assyrian dance groups, a kids zone and carnival rides.

Billie Holiday Project

A show celebrating Billie Holiday is set for the Mistlin Gallery in Modesto. Stella Heath and an ensemble of Bay Area jazz musicians will perform the music of Holiday — her hits as well as lesser-known songs from her repertoire.

Hell’s Belles

All-female AC/DC tribute band Hell’s Belles pulls into the State Theatre in Modesto. The group represents “a whole new generation of women that won’t be intimidated,” the State Theatre website says.
