Notre Dame has a "Big Shot" at its football stadium, and Summerfly's annual high school musical gets staged at Clay High School. Plus, one theater embraces the "Fringe" and another embraces pet rocks and lava lamps, while the fate of a potential Russian princess plays out in American Theatre Guild's final show of the season at the Morris this weekend.

Joel last performed on campus in 1996, at Stepan Center. He also performed in 1984 at the Joyce Center.

The concert had originally been planned for June 20, 2020, and then June 26, 2021, but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tailgating will be allowed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on concert day. No one will be allowed to tailgate in the parking lots once the show begins.

Civic and VPA stage second Fringe Festival

South Bend Civic Theatre and Venues Parks & Arts present the second South Bend’s Fringe Festival from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 23 and 24 and from 2 to 7 p.m. June 25 and 26 at 403 N. Main St.

More than 25 unique acts will perform multiple times over the course of four days, spanning a wide range of artistic disciplines, including theater, music, comedy, dance, magic and more.

An arts festival featuring alternative or experimental performances and exhibitions, fringe festivals originated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the 1940s when independent artists banded together in response to an invite-only arts festival that was happening at the same time.

There is no hierarchy of good art versus bad art in fringe festivals, and the content is purposefully uncensored for artists to gain full creative freedom.

'Streakin’ Thru the ’70s!' continues at Canterbury Summer Theatre

MICHIGAN CITY — Canterbury Summer Theatre presents “Streakin’ Thru the ’70s!” through July 2 at 807 Franklin St.

Written By James A. Rocco and Albert Evans, the show features more than 40 songs from the “Me Decade” and sketches about game shows, sitcoms, disco, earth shoes, natural highs, pet rocks, lava lamps and the political unrest of the much-maligned decade.

Summerfly presents ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ at South Bend’s Clay High School

Summerfly presents “The Dowsy Chaperone” at 7 p.m. June 23 to 25 at Clay High School, 19131 Darden Road.

The play is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s about a man who sits alone in his apartment listening to a recording of his favorite musical, which comes to life in front of him, as he provides a running commentary on it.

The production features students from Clay, Adams, St. Joseph, Penn and Brandywine high schools.

Namely News: Ex-director of Firefly Festival publishes coming-of-age novel, 'Waiting for Prince Charming'

The Summerfly production was formerly part of the Firefly Festival for the Performing Arts held at St. Patrick’s County Park. The Firefly Festival ended in 2005. Since then, the high school production has been held at Clay.

American Theatre Guild presents ‘Anastasia’ at the Morris

American Theatre Guild presents “Anastasia” at the Morris Performing Arts Center, 211 N. Michigan St.

Based on the animated 1997 film, the 2017 musical features a book by playwright Terrence McNally and music composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens.
